Se présentant comme un collectif d’art interdisciplinaire, les artistes, programmeurs, ingénieurs, mathématiciens et architectes officiant pour teamLab cherchent à naviguer à la confluence de l’art, des sciences, de la technologie et de la nature.
À la tête du collectif, Toshiyuki Inoko, qui fonde teamLab en 2001 avec une idée bien précise en tête : explorer notre relation au vivant, pour nous proposer une vision équilibrée et harmonieuse du monde, dénuée de toutes frontières. Le résultat est toujours hypnotique.
Le numérique nous a permis de libérer l’art du physique et d’abolir certaines frontières. Nous ne percevons aucune barrière entre l’humain et la nature, l’un est dans l’autre, et l’autre est dans l’un. Tout existe dans la continuité d’une vie longue, fragile et miraculeuse.
Moving Creates Vortices and Vortices Create Movement, est une performance digitale interactive reproduisant de puissants tourbillons se formant à la surface de l’eau, un phénomène naturel causé par l’interaction des marées à certains endroits du monde, et notamment dans le détroit de Naruto au Japon d’où Toshiyuki Inoko est originaire.
Nous voulions créer une expérience où le comportement des gens influe sur la vitesse d’écoulement de l’œuvre
« Dans l’océan, certains obstacles majeurs comme les îles vont provoquer différentes vitesses d’écoulement et générer des vortex. Ces vortex vont transporter les corps de différents organismes vivants et éléments nutritifs issus des forêts et de rivières s’écoulant au large. Cela crée une eau de mer hautement nutritive et profitable au développement de la vie marine. » Fascinant donc de constater combien notre activité humaine est reliée à celle des océans. Tout est dans tout… et réciproquement !
teamLab: Transcending Boundaries / Pace London
Transcending Boundaries is an exhibition of works by teamLab at Pace London, which features three rooms of immersive installations, including a virtual waterfall that extends beyond the gallery wall onto the floor, flowing through the exhibition space and around the feet of the viewer. Transcending Boundaries aims to explore the role of digital technology in transcending the physical and conceptual boundaries that exist between different artworks, with imagery from one work breaking free of the frame and entering the space of another. The installations also dissolve distinctions between artwork and exhibition space, and involve the viewer through interactivity. The art collective teamLab is a collective, interdisciplinary creative group that brings together professionals from various fields of practice in the digital society: artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, architects, web and print graphic designers and editors. Referring to themselves as « Ultra-technologists, » the group aims to go beyond the boundaries between art, science, technology and creativity, through co-creative activities. TeamLab was formed in 2001 by Toshiyuki Inoko.
